A number of independent experts have uncovered flaws and defects in the soon-to-be-released Windows Vista operating system. Some of these flaws could enable hackers working for money launderers to access, and even change, compliance programmes and documents, and also view proprietary internal compliance procedures. Until these defects are fixed, and the corrections have been reviewed, money laundering reporting officers and compliance officers may wish to advise their IT departments to put departmental upgrades to Vista on hold at this time.
Compliance officers are urged to make enquiries with departmental IT to ascertain the present status of bank upgrades from Windows XP to Vista, and if necessary, to alert senior bank management, as the news of these system defects may not have reached management during this holiday season.
