DIFFERENT ANGLE by Kenneth Rijock
OFAC has listed two South African nationals, and their company, as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT), following their naming as terror suspects by the United Nations Security Council. The designated parties are alleged to have close ties to Al-Qaeda, and to other major terrorists and their charitable front organisations.
Named by OFAC are:
- Farhad Ahmed Dockrat [UID 553103], a Muslim cleric residing in Erasmia, Pretoria, South Africa.
- Junaid Ismail Dockrat [UID 553102], a dentist who works in in Johannesburg's Mayfair district.
The individuals, said to be cousins, are reported to have:
- Supported Al-Qaeda by providing funds to the Afghan-based Al-Akhtar Trust International [UID 191039], designated by the US as an Al-Qaeda fundraiser and SDGT
- Facilitated travel for South African individuals wishing to train in Al-Qaeda camps in Pakistan.
Also named was an entity reported to be owned, at least in part, by Junaid: Sniper Africa [UID 553101], also known as Sniper Outdoor CC, also known as True Motives 1236 CC, a company that sells camouflage clothing and equipment. The company's slogan, curiously enough, is " designed to disappear." It operates in:
- Johannesburg
- Fordsburg
- Cartletonville
- Kensington
The Dockrats have denied any involvement in terrorist financing and training.
