Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori was flown to Lima on Saturday from Chile, where he has been fighting extradition demanded by Peru. The former Peruvian leader was returned to face charges of human rights abuses and embezzlement of public funds. Peruvian authorities will probably charge him with responsibility for murders that took place during his administration, but financial crime investigators are most interested in whether details of his rampant corruption will be publicly released. Fujimori is believed to have stolen as much as $2bn during his presidency, some of which has been reportedly located in the United States, the Cayman Islands, and Switzerland, according to the Peruvian Office of the Special Prosecutor for Corruption Offences.
