OFAC designates 11 senior Burmese government officials
20 October 2007
The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has named eleven senior Burmese government officials as Specially Designated Nationals, or SDNs, and has also listed several corporate entities controlled by the Burmese military regime. This action is in addition to the previous naming of 14 Burmese senior officials on 27 September*.
I would be very, very careful when dealing with any of the following Burmese government agencies, all of whose commanders have been designated, lest you unwittingly violate these OFAC sanctions by receiving correspondence from an agency head.
It is further suggested that you World-Check the names of any Burmese entities that your clients are currently doing business with, to ensure that they are not in violation of OFAC sanctions. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ *See US Designates 14 Burmese PEPs as SDNs, World-Check 29 September, 2007.
