Risk remains high for freed Guantanamo detainees
8 May 2008

Abdallah Saleh Ali Al-Ajmi, released from custody in the American terrorist detention centre in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has died in Iraq in a reported suicide bombing attack in Mosul. The US military has advised that several former Guantanamo detainees are known to have returned to combatant status, that several have been killed in combat, and others have participated in suicide bombing attacks.

Whilst global public opinion has focused on the possible innocence of a number of those currently in custody at the Guantanamo facility, the information that a number of released detainees are found to be again engaging in terrorist activities gives us pause to reconsider their release. As an aside; should they not be now considered prisoners of war, and held under the conditions of the Geneva Convention at Guantanamo? That's not our issue, but a point to consider.

Anyway, back to our principal issue. bankers might wish to consider any released ex-Guantanamo detainee unacceptable high-risk, due to this disturbing trend observed, that they tend to return to terror tactics.
