DIFFERENT ANGLE by Kenneth Rijock
At this week's Bogota press conference, the INTERPOL report on the validity of computer files seized by the Armed Forces of Colombia, during a raid upon a FARC base-camp inside Ecuador, will be released. Since illegal payments reportedly made by Venezuela to the FARC and several Latin American presidential candidates, and contained in those files, will probably be validated, you will want to re-examine country risk in those jurisdictions named to date. Additionally, the Government of Colombia has been releasing files to the press, and a blanket statement that the documents are authentic will then serve to vet all subsequent documents declassified and released. Whether improper payments by Venezuela to other countries will be revealed is unknown, but you can be certain that there will be additional Latin American politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) named as recipients of illegal campaign funds, bribes, or other money designed to corrupt them, in those files.
- INTERPOL will formally present the public report and findings on its forensic examination of seized FARC computers and hardware to the Colombian authorities at the headquarters of the Departamento Administrativo de Seguridad (DAS) in Bogota at 1000 AM local time (1500 GMT) on Thursday 15 May, immediately followed by a press conference. The classified report will be delivered to the Colombian authorities beforehand.
- Under the terms of the agreement signed with Colombia in Bogota on Wednesday 12 march, INTERPOLs assistance included the deployment of an Incident Response Team (IRT) to Bogota to obtain mirror images of the content data of the three laptop computers, three USB thumb keys and two external hard disks in order to carry out an independent computer forensic technical examination of that content data.
