DIFFERENT ANGLE by Kenneth Rijock
If you were wondering why the FARC bought into the story that the hostages covertly liberated (by the Colombian Armed Forces) were being transferred to another rebel base-camp, they were convinced, in part, by the presence of what appeared to be helicopter transport furnished by a "neutral" non-governmental organisation. The truth is, many radical NGOs are global support systems for designated terrorist groups; they do little to hide their political sympathies for "insurgents" seeking to replace existing democratic governments with communist or radical socialist agendas. Perhaps it is time for you to take a good look at the NGOs who are your clients. Who are the beneficiaries of their operations? Are you sure?
- How many years has the NGO been operational, and do its stated purposes and goals have a decidedly radical orientation?
- Who are its grantees/beneficiaries? How do you confirm this?
- Does it operate in countries where there is little governmental control in rural areas, and where terrorist groups are operating?
- Have you thoroughly vetted its principal officers and directors, including their backgrounds?
- Who or what is the donor base for the NGO?
- Does the NGO have leadership who are well-known in their field, and who have professional qualifications?
- Have you thoroughly read the NGOs literature, in all languages in which it exists?
Most NGOs perform good works, often operating in the developing world. Please ensure that you are not unwittingly banking one of the bad apples, as reputation damage may occur if you fail to identify and
expel it before it is unmasked in the world's press.
