One of Colombia's Most Wanted arrested in Madrid

Edgar Vallejo-Guarin, an alleged drugs boss who has a $5m reward posted in the United States, and whose name has appeared on Colombia's Most Wanted List, was arrested in a Madrid hotel, where he was staying under an assumed name. Vallejo, known in the narcotics trade as Beto el Gitano (Beto the Gypsy), has been under indictment since 2001, in United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Edgar Guillermo Vallejo-Guarin (World-Check UID 325313) has, according to the US State Department, "an extensive history of violence, money laundering and the corruption of high-level government officials."

The Miami indictment charges:
  • Conspiracy to Possess Cocaine, with Intent to Distribute, on board a vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
  • Aiding and Abetting the Possession, with Intent to Distribute, Cocaine on board a vessel subject to the jurisdiction of the United States.
  • Operating a Continuing Criminal Enterprise.

The maximum sentence that could be imposed upon the Defendant, based upon these charges, is three terms of Life Imprisonment.
