Three people including Charles Overend, a former police financial investigator were sentenced to almost 10 years imprisonment in total for defrauding mortgage providers of £4.6m. Overend was assisted by Carrol Thompson and Jonathan Overend (UID 1286410), his brother.

Raj Bhojwani was sentenced to six years in jail by Jersey's Royal Court for acting as a frontman and using a Jersey bank to deposit millions of pounds. The money was gleaned from a 1996 and 1997 deal to provide overpriced trucks to the Nigerian army during General Sani Abacha's presidency. The presiding magistrate said "They were frauds against a nation, and against its people. A people who, it is a matter for judicial note, rank amongst the most impoverished in the world." Arrested in 2007 the sentencing follows his conviction on three counts of money laundering early this year.

Authorities in Mexico have arrested and jailed a mayor of one of the major cities in Mexico. The mayor has been charged with aiding two major drug trafficking organizations. Prosecutors say he hid $2.5 million in a number of bank accounts and laundered cash for the cartels. This money the authorities claim cannot be explained by his income. Five of the city's previous seven mayors have been involved in corruption scandals.

Authorities in Dubai have arrested a former Nigerian state governor, on an Interpol arrest notice. The former governor is wanted on money laundering charges in Nigeria, he was reportedly in Dubai to set up a company. Several of his associates are facing money laundering charges in Britain, where a court froze $35-million of his assets in August 2007 on suspicion they were the proceeds of corruption.

The former minister is accused of using his political influence to secure €7 million in kickbacks to fund his political campaign during the 1990s. Reportedly the money was moved through offshore accounts of his associates and his son. He has already been found guilty by a criminal court and convicted to a year in prison for receiving bribes in the Angolagate arms trafficking trial in October 2009. He has appealed that ruling.

The Italian authorities have been conducting an investigation into alleged laundering of more than €2 billion through the fake invoicing of non-existent telephone and internet services between 2003 and 2006. Authorities have reportedly issued fifty-six arrest warrants in connection with this investigation.

The former President of Guatemala was arrested in January 2010 as he was reportedly attempting to flee the country. A US indictment has been unsealed in New York accusing the former potentate of embezzling funds donated by Taiwan.

Roh Geon-pyeong (UID 140146), the elder brother of the late former Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, has had his commuted sentence of two and a half years for graft confirmed by the Supreme court. Roh reportedly returned the 300 million won he took in bribes.
